Akureyri is known as the 'capital of the North' and is the trade and cultural centre of North Iceland, beautifully situated overlooking the fjord. From here you will visit the Lake Mývatn area, renowned for its beauty and geological wonders. The region offers a multitude of activities plus, of course, the opportunity to relax in the lagoon at Mývatn Nature Baths.
Reykjavik is Iceland´s exciting capital city with a superb selection of bars, cafes, restaurants and shops; renowned for its nightlife and friendly, easy-going people.
Day 1
Arrive Keflavik Airport. Transfer to hotel.
1 night REYKJAVIK - Hotel Reykjavik Natura (BB)
Day 2
Morning flight from Reykjavik Domestic Airport to Akureyri. Transfer to your hotel in the Lake Mývatn area for check-in before taking a guided sightseeing tour of the area. Return to the hotel for dinner. During your free day at Lake Mývatn you have the opportunity to try a selection of outdoor activites - see under Optional Activities & Excursions.

Day 4
Visit the town of Akureyri, the trade and cultural centre of North Iceland before taking the flight back to Reykjavik. Transfer to your hotel.

A lovely hotel situated in the quiet Oskjuhlid wooded area of Reykjavik, next to the only geothermal beach in Reykjavik, and just a few minutes walk from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. The hotel was completely renovated and re-named in the spring of 2011 (formerly Hotel Loftleiðir) and now offers very stylish accommodation with a theme of nature. All standard rooms have a double or twin bed - TV -Telephone - Wireless Internet (for small fee) - Trouser press - Fridge - Coffee and tea making facilities plus bathroom with shower and hairdryer. The hotel has several restaurants with traditional Icelandic food being the main feature. The hotel also has a cafe and Grab & Go fast food outlet and a bar. The hotel´s spa and wellness centre, Sóley Natura Spa offers a wide range of spa treatments for those who need pampering!
Sel Hotel Mývatn is the ideal base for experiencing the wonders of Mývatn and its surroundings. The hotel has 35 rooms which all have a bathroom, telephone, radio and TV. Each room can also be connected to the internet. All rooms are beautifully furnished with solid mahogany. The restaurant is in the south wing of the hotel and is open to serve dinner from 1900 to 2030 during the winter season with an a la carte menu; it is also from here that you have a marvellous view of the Skútustaðagígar pseudo-craters, which are just a couple of minutes' walk away. The hotel´s bar is open from 1800 until 2130 during the winter.

Short Snowmobile Trip
With a snowmobile you can explore Nature during the winter months in a different way. Take an exciting adventure on snowmobiles out onto the frozen Lake Mývatn or travel deep into the highland with one of the guides. Duration: ½ hour. Price: ISK14.500 per person (1 per snowmobile), ISK10.900 (2 per snowmobile).
Super-Jeep Adventure
Explore the surroundings where volcanic and geothermal activity have created spectacular landscape and scenery. Stops made include the thermal area of Næamafjall, where you see boiling mud pools and bubbling sulphurpits, an underground cave with hot spring, the dark city of Dimmuborgir, the lava sculptures and the beautiful woodland in the nature park Höfði. Duration: 3 hours. Price: ISK15.900 per person with English speaking guide.
Sightseeing tours
Provide the chance to explore the nature as well as the special way of life in the North. The following trips are available with an English speaking guide:

Country Tour
A guided mini-bus trip where you visit an hydro-electric power station, see times past at an old turf farm and visit the folk museum at Grenjaðarstaður. Then you drive to Húsavik, a small fishing village and pay a visit to the Whale Museum. A great view of Icelandic life, past and present. Duration: 5 hours. Price: ISK15.900 per person.
Evening Northern Lights Tour
Lake Mývatn belongs to the highland of Iceland and is around 300m above sea-level. This is why the area is a remarkable place to discover the Northern Lights. Home made bread, cakes and hot chocolate served to keep spirits high! Duration: 3 hours. Price: ISK12.500 per person.
Mývatn Nature Baths
The lagoon is rich in a unique comination of natural minerals plus blue-green algae and white silica mud; these give the lagoon its soft, milky, aquamarine colour. The natural geothermal baths are also healthy for patients with psoriasis and other skin ailments. There is a good dressing room with three different kinds of steambath and a hot tub too. Duration: 2-3 hours. Price: ISK1.500 per person for the transfer, admission to the baths is extra.
Cross Country Skiing
The Lake Mývatn area and the surrounding highlands are great for cross-countryskiing for both beginners and more experience skiiers.
Beginners Tour: Duration: 1 hour. Price: ISK5.900 per person including skis, boots and ski poles.
Lake Tour: Duration: 2 hours. Price: ISK7.800 per person including skis etc as above.
Ice Delights
Different kinds of activities on the frozen lake; bowling, cricket, skating, mini-golf, go-carting and more. Price: ISK9.000 per person. Further information given locally.
