Iceland is hot property right now! And with a

landscape that boasts many of the world's most

sought after geological wonders, it's no surprise

This is an exciting yet leisurely tour to North and South Iceland that combines the best of Iceland. Highlights include soaking in the Blue Lagoon, seeing the famous Gullfoss Waterfall, and travelling past Europe´s largest glacier to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon with floating icebergs!

This tour focuses on guided day tours from Akureyri in the north and Hella in the south, with two choices of accommodation- tourist and superior standard. You'll be staying in just 2 resorts during your holiday which means less packing and unpacking and more time to relax and discover the nearby areas.

Day 1 - Welcome to Iceland!

Arrive Keflavik Airport by air from the UK. Transfer to your hotel.

1 night REYKJAVIK - Hotel Bjórk ***plus or Reykjavik Centrum **** (BB)

Day 2 - West Iceland & over the mountains to the North (500km/310mls)

After leaving Reykjavik we explore Hraunfossar waterfalls, Europe's most powerful hot spring, and climb the Grábrók volcano crater in West Iceland. We see some of Iceland's past with a visit to Glaumbær Turf Farm Museum and travel along fjords and over moutains to Akureyri - the capital of North Iceland.

5 nights AKUREYRI - Edda Hotel *** or Hotel Kea **** (BB)

Day 3 - Akureyri & optional tour to Hrísey Island (20 km/12mls)

In the morning you will have a guided walk to explore Akureyri, which has a charming city centre and a fine botanical garden. The afternoon is free to explore on your own or join an optional excursion by bus and ferry to Hrísey Island.

Day 4 - Geological wonders of Lake Mývatn (230km/143mls)

Full day excursion to Goðafoss waterfall and Lake Mývatn, known for its rich bird life and extraordinary volcanic lava landscapes.

Day 5 - Leisure day or optional day tour to Siglufjörður (300km/186mls)

Explore Akureyri on your own or join an optional excursion to see some spectacular fjord landscapes while travelling to Sigluförður, Iceland's northernmost town.

Day 6 - Whales, waterfalls and Europe's largest National Park (360km/223mls)

Húsavik is a picturesque small fishing town only an hour from Akureyri, where you can join an optional whale watching cruise or visit some of the many museums. Then we travel to the northern part of Vatnajökull National Park, stop at bird cliffs where puffins may be seen, and visit the huge canyon of Asbyrgi and Dettifoss, Europe´s most powerful waterfall.

Day 7 - Kjölur Highland Road (390km/242mls)

We travel through the heart of Iceland today - travelling on the Kjölur Trail, between the glaciers Langjökull and Hofsjökull. We will stop at the hot springs of Hveravellir, where you can soak in a natural hot pool. Hella in South Iceland is our base for the next six nights.

6 nights HELLA - Fosshotel Mosfell **plus or Hotel Ranga ****

Day 8 - South Shore (200km/124mls)

We visit the glaciers, waterfalls, bird cliffs and lava beaches of South Iceland. There is an optional glacier walk or a visit to Skógar village together with your guide.

Day 9 - Þjórsárdalur (180km/112mls)

We travel alongside the Hekla volcano and visit the Hjálparfoss waterfall, the Viking farm ruins at Stöng and enjoy a leisurely hike to Gjáin, a green oasis in an otherwise rocky, barren moon landscape.

Day 10 - Leisure day or optional day tour to Vatnajökull National Park (600km/372mls)

Today is a free day, or you can join an optional day tour to the southern part of Vatnajökull National Park, home of Europe's largest glacier and including a visit to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon with floating icebergs.

Day 11 - Westman Islands (100km/62mls)

Ahoy! We take a short ferry ride to the Westman Islands. There will be a bus and walking tour of the village of Heimaey. You will have the afternoon free to explore the island, with its birds and signs of recent volcanic eruptions.

Day 12 - Golden Circle (230km/143mls)

A day visit to three of Iceland's most important spots: Gullfoss Waterfall, Geyser hot springs and þingvellir National Park.

Day 13 - Reykjanes Peninsula, Blue Lagoon and Reykjavik (200km/124mls)

Hot springs, lava fields, amazing bird cliffs and moon landscapes are today´s itinerary. After an optional visit to the Blue Lagoon we return to Reykjavik for a city tour.

Day 14 - Departure

Transfer to Keflavik Airport for return flight to UK.

Hotel Björk ***

Hotel Bjork, Reykjavik

A superior three star hotel situated within a 10 minute walk from the heart of Reykjavik. The rooms are modern, spacious and comfortable with shower/wc, satellite TV and telephone and are accessible via a lift. Buffet breakfast is taken at the hotel's excellent in-house restaurant, Potturinn & Pannan. The restaurant offers a delicious selection of traditional and international cuisine prepared using the freshest of local produce.


Hotel Reykjavik Centrum ****

Hotel Centrum, Reykjavik

Comprising three 18th century style buildings in the centre of Reykjavik, this charming hotel was newly opened in 2005 and consists of 89 elegantly decorated en-suite rooms all with satellite and pay TV, cable and wireless internet, mini-bar, room safe, hairdryer, ironing board and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel has its own restaurant serving lunch and dinner and a bar/cafe offering light refreshments.


Edda Hotel Akureyri***
This is a modern hotel with spacious size rooms and up-to-date facilities. Its location is its best asset; overlooking beautiful Icelandic scenery and providing the opportunity to indulge in nearby woodland walks, hiking and climbing, whale watching and it is within close vacinity of stunning botanical gardens. The hotel also allows its customers access to an outdoor geothermal swimming pool and hot tub. 

Fosshotel Mosfell **plus
A good basic country hotel situated in the ‘centre’ of Hella and is the perfect location for exploring South Central Iceland. All rooms for this tour have shower/WC and TV. The breakfast room is furnished in rustic style plus there is a sitting room and TV lounge. Internet access. The dinner restaurant s located across the street in one of the local restaurants.

Hotel Ranga ****

The wonderful location of Hotel Rangá offers picturesque views of the famous Mt. Hekla to the North; a range of mountains, glaciers and a live volcano to the North-East; and of the Westman Islands to the South. Whilst at Hotel Rangá, you'll able to relax in luxury and serenrity, by enjoying the comforts on offer, from outdoor geothermal hot tubs to massage facilities. All rooms are decorated to a high standard and include all modern necessities. 

About this tour
This is an easy tour and in which nearly everyone can take part. Best of Iceland offers more free time and independent accommodation, dining and touring options than other escorted Iceland round trips. Museums and activities are not included in tour price and can be paid on spot if interested to participate.

Optional tours:
Day 3: Hrisey Island including ferry, 4-5 hours for £50 per person
Day 5: Siglufjörður, Iceland's most northern town, 8 hours for £80 per person
Day 10: Vatnajökull National Park, 12 hours for £120 per person
