Balestrand is a picturesque village standing on a short promontory of farmland backed by towering, snow-capped mountains and overlooking the mighty Sognefjord. Its little quay is a port of call for express boats, various fishing and commercial vessels and bus services operating in all directions offering visitors ample opportunity to explore the Sognefjord region on leisurely day trips.
For walkers and hikers there are few places to compete with Balestrand.
Day 1 - Arrive Norway, transfer to Balestrand
Arrive Bergen Airport by air from the UK. Take the airport bus to Bergen City Centre, by the fishmarket. The express boat quay is just across the road from the bus stop. Afternoon departure by express boat northwards along the coastline before turning into the mighty Sognefjord to Balestrand. Met on arrival by your hosts and transferred to the hotel for check-in and dinner.

Day 2 - Included excursion Fjærlandsfjord and the Glacier Museum plus glaciers
Breakfast at the hotel. Late morning departure (1150) by boat for the lovely, leisurely journey along the Fjærlandsfjord to the village of Fjærland visiting the Glacier Exhibition Museum and the Bøyabreen Glacier before returning to Balestrand (1650) by the same route.
Overnight BALESTRAND - Midtnes Hotel (included meals B,D)
Day 3 - Free Day
Breakfast at the hotel. Free day in Balestrand to relax or enjoy one of the many marked walking/hiking trails with magnificent views of the fjord (maps available from the Tourist Information Office). Alternatively you may take an optional excursion by boat to Flåm followed by a return trip on the Flåm Mountain Railway - see under Excursions.

Day 4 - Journey to Bergen, home to the UK
Early breakfast at the hotel is followed by the return journey by express boat to Bergen arriving late morning. Time in Bergen before taking the airport bus to Bergen Airport for your return flight to the UK.

One of the most popular quality small hotels in Western Norway. Owned and managed by Jon Gjeraker, who is a mine of local information. All rooms are accessible via a lift and have shower and WC with a number also having a private balcony. Several nice living rooms, one with an open fireplace and TV, darts, billiards and a sun terrace with a fabulous panorama view of the Sognefjord. The hotel has its own pier, a bathing place and rowing boat. Water comes straight from a mountain lake and is drinkable from the tap! Buffet breakfast and dinner is a 3 course set menu.

Description: Feel like an adrenaline-boost? Try a boat trip in a Bombard RIB! This vessel is 24 ft long and is certified to carry 19 passengers. The Bombard is based in Vik i Sogn, but operates along the whole length of the Sognefjord with daily departures from Balestrand to the unique Finnabotn.
Operates: 1 May - 1 October.
