A wonderful motoring tour featuring the magnificent

Western Fjords, the Jotunheimen Mountains and

Døvrefjell National Park.

 

Much of Norway's magnificent and contrasting scenery and perhaps some of the most amazing motoring routes you will ever drive.


 

Day 1

Arrive Bergen Airport. Collect your hire car from the airport. Short drive, via Dalen, to Voss overlooking Lake Vang. Day's mileage approx. 62 miles.

2 nights VOSS - Fleischer's Hotel **** (HB)

Day 3

Northwards alongside Lake Løna, passing Tvinde Falls, then entering Myrkdalen before climbing and crossing Vikafjell plateau, descending with magnificent panoramas to Vik, overlooking the Sognefjord. Across the fjord by ferry to begin your lovely drive along the northern shore of the fjord to Sogndal. Day's mileage approx. 74 miles plus 1 ferry, duration 15 minutes.

2 nights SOGNDAL - Quality Hotel Sogndal (HB)

Day 5

Alongside Lustrafjord to Skjolden before climbing Sognefjell, one of the Jotunheimens, Norway’s highest mountain range with spectacular views. Now the Sognefjell travels down through forested Leirdal and Bøverdal to the old farmstead of Elveseter, beautifully positioned for hikes in this magnificent mountain region. Day's mileage approx. 77 miles.

1 night ELVESETER - Elveseter Hotel *** (HB)

Day 6

Continue through Bøverdal to Lom with its stave church and exhibition of semi-precious stones, then follow the road alongside Lake Vågå to the little village of Otta. Here you join the main highway between Oslo and Norway’s far north, route E6, passing through upper Gudbrandsdalen to Dombås, on the edge of the Dovrefjell National Park.

1 night DOMBÅS - Døvrefjell Hotel *** (HB)

Day 7

Your journey now bears westwards following River Lågen through peaceful farmland to Bjorli and then alongside the turbulent watrs of River Rauma into Romsdalen. Pass the sheer Troll Wall to the little port of Åndalsnes. Now begins a spectacular journey southwards through Isterdalen on the ’Trollstigen Road’ with its many hairpin bends and wonderful views into Meierdalen. Cross the Norddalsfjord by ferry before beginning your magnificent descent of the Eagle Road with breathtaking views of the Geirangerfjord to Geiranger. Day’s mileage approx. 114 plus 1 ferry duration 10 minutes.

1 night GEIRANGER - Geirangerfjord Hotel *** (HB)

Day 8

By ferry from Geiranger for the wonderful cruise along the Geirangerfjord, passing the Seven Sisters Waterfall, to Hellesylt. Alongside Lake Hornindal and around the head of the fjord to Loen. Day’s mileage approx. 52 plus 1 ferry duration 70 minutes.

2 nights LOEN - Loen Fjordhotel *** (HB)

Day 10

Continue around the head of the Nordfjord before climbing and crossing the Utvik Mountains to the cross roads at Byrkjelo. Southwards now alongside Lake Jølster through the little village of Skei and the larger town of Førde, before driving through Ytredal to reach the Sognefjord at Vadheim. Across the fjord by ferry to Oppedal then continue over Fjordsdalen and Romarheimsdalen into Bergen. Day’s mileage approx. 178 plus 1 ferry, duration 20 minutes.

1 night BERGEN - Augustin Hotel *** (BB) - includes reserved car parking.

Day 11

Return your hire car to Bergen Airport before joining return flight to the UK.

Fleischer's Hotel ****

A delightful traditional hotel, surrounded by mountains and lakes. Internationally renowned under owner managment of the Fleischer family for over 150 years. Elveseter Hotel ***

Elveseter is an old farmstead situated in Bøverdalen valley in Lom County. Norlandia Døvrefjell Hotel ***

The hotel is idyllically located in the forest to the foot of the Dovre National Park. Trails are for all who love the woods - summer and winter. In the winter, the mountains are covered with snow, and there are miles of well-prepared cross-country skiing tracks as well as an alpine skiing center. Summer visitors will appreciate the unspoilt nature right on the doorstep of the Norlandia Dovrefjell Hotell - ideal for hiking on idyllic forest paths or in the mountain, fishing trips or musk ox safari. The hotel restaurant is well known for its delicious, home-made food, served in a pleasant dining room with a great view overlooking the Dombås skiing area. Hotel Geiranger ***

Situated in the centre of Geiranger overlooking the harbour and the fjord. In the hotel you will find Restaurant Skageflå, pleasant lounges and cosy bars as well as a gift shop and a panorama terrace with a breathtaking view of the fjord and mountains. All standard rooms are decorated with Norwegian style furnishings and have shower and WC, satellite TV, telephone and a mountain view or limited fjord view. Rooms with fjord view and a balcony at a supplement. Lift to all floors.


Loenfjord Hotel***

Built in traditional style with a large terrace cafe overlooking the river. This location enables you to be close to magnficient mountain scenery. There is a Lounge, bar, and a spacious dining room for you to enjoy and the option of dancing to live music six nights each week is also availble! All rooms have telephone and TV. Guests are able to use the facilities of the Hotel Alexandra for a small charge.


Augustin Hotel ***

Bergen's oldest family-run hotel now managed by the fourth generation. Centrally located in the shopping and harbour area, the oldest part of the hotel was built in Art Nouveau style in 1909, however, since then the hotel has expanded, incorporating old neighbouring houses and building new wings. The hotel has a popular intimate dinner restaurant (closed Sundays) and a lovely 400-year-old cellar bar.  All bedrooms are equipped with TV, phone, hairdryer, mini-bar and trouser press  Lift to all floors.
