Surrounded by Finnish Lapland’s stunning winter scenery,

Kakslauttanen is situated in the Saariselkä fell area close

to Urho Kekkonen National Park, 250 kms north of the

Arctic Circle.

The resort offers first class traditional log cabin accommodation, all with private sauna, plus an igloo village including glass igloos and snow igloos for an alternative overnight experience!

The resort also offers a broad selection of winter activities including snowmobile and husky dog safaris, Northern Lights hunting, ice fishing and reindeer sledding.

Santa’s Resort is just 10 minutes from Kakslauttanen; here you will find Santa’s house where he receives his visitors, and friendly Elves serve hot drinks and ginger biscuits. There is a large reindeer pen and a wide variety of other activities are also available.

Fly from the UK to Ivalo Airport (via Helsinki). Met on arrival and transferred to the resort.

Kakslauttanen Hotel & Igloo Village

40 first-class log cabins out of which five are Queen Suites, one is a Honeymoon Turf Chamber and one is a traditional Lappish farmer log house (for groups of 6-10 only, prices on request).

Log Cabins
Each log cabin is of a high standard and has either one or two bedrooms (depending on number of passengers), living room with fireplace, kitchenette, bathroom with shower and WC and private sauna.

Queen Suite
Spacious and modern in design and in addition to the above has a luxurious bathroom and outside hot tub.

Honeymoon Turf Chamber
Again, has all of the above but is made from stripped birch covered with half a metre of turf. There is a cosy bedroom with fireplace and a Versace-style bathroom with glowing stars in the ceiling (the Polar Star directly over the bath tub!).

Glass Igloos
Built from a special thermal glass the termperature inside the igloo always stays at a normal level and prevents the glass from misting. This provides a clear view of the night sky whilst lying in bed! Every igloo has a WC and washbasin.

Snow Igloo
Built entirely out of snow! The temperature inside always stays between -3 and -6°C. You are provided with a warm down sleeping bag, woollen socks and hood so that you do not feel the cold. Accommodate 1-5 persons.

Husky Dog Safari Kakslauttanen

Description: Just across the road from the hotel the husky farm is home to about 250 eager huskies ready to take you on an unforgettable journey through breath-taking scenery. You are provided with a thermal suit, gloves and hat before meeting your very own husky team and learning how to drive the sledge and observe important hand signals by your leader. Each team consists of about six dogs, you (the driver) and your passenger, who is seated on the wooden sled. Driver and passenger can change places at any time during the safari.

Snowmobile Safari Kakslauttanen

Description: Transfer to the village of Saariselkä, 10 kms away. On arrival you will receive full equipment including thermal suit, boots, socks, gloves, balaclava and helmet, followed by an all-important lesson on driving a snowmobile and safety information. The safari trail begins with a drive up to the beautiful Kaunispää fell, 436m above sea level, opening up the most stunning views over the surrounding area before continuing through the quiet winter forest.

Duration: Either 2 hours or 4 hours.
Price: £98 per person (2 hours, 2 per snowmobile), £138 per person (2 hours, solo driver). £134 per person (4 hours, 2 per snowmobile), £173 (4 hours, solo rider).  NB. 4 hour safaris include lunch cooked over an open fire in a wilderness hut.

Aurora Hunting by Snowmobile
Description:
An evening safari in search of the Northern Lights.

Visit to Reindeer Farm by Snowmobile
Description: A wonderful journey by snowmobile to a reindeer farm for a guided tour.

Reindeer Safari Kakslauttanen

Description: Transfer to the reindeer farm and receive all necessary equipment and full instructions then glide peacefully through the magical winter forest pulled by your very own reindeer. This safari requires no skills and the reindeer will do all the work! The 4 hour trip includes hot lunch in a reindeer herdsman’s hut. This safari gives you a wonderful opportunity to learn all about the Sami people, their traditions and way of life.

Duration: Either 2 hours or 4 hours.
Price: £107 per person (2 hours), £130 per person (4 hours). NB. 4 hour safari includes lunch. Evening 2 hour Aurora safari also available.


Ice Fishing by Snowmobile Kakslauttanen

Description: Transfer to the small village of Inari, overlooking the lake of the same name. On arrival you take a snowmobile drive onto the lake and where weather conditions guide you to the best fishing spot. Your guide will drill a hole in the ice and provide instructions for how ice fishing is best done. Lunch served over an open fire. Any catch may be kept and the hotel’s chef will be happy to cook it for you if you wish. Continue by snowmobile to the wilderness church at Pielpajärvi for a short visit before continuing to the Sami museum, Siida, at Inari. The museum gives you a very good insight into the life of the Sami people, both past and present.

Duration: Leave after breakfast and return in time for dinner!

Santa's Resort Kakslauttanen

Description: Includes Santa’s own house, where Santa receives visitors and where Elves serve hot drinks and ginger biscuits. There is a large reindeer pen, where you can see some of Santa’s and his elves’ reindeer, and even drive a reindeer-drawn sledge in winter!
