Restaurants and pub within close proximity.

Basecamp Isfjord Radio

The radio station is newly renovated and has charming and cosy rooms, a lounge with a fireplace and a unique and extremely interesting history. Isfjord Radio used to link Spitsbergen with the rest of the world. As a frontier weather and communications station it has a legendary status in Norway. Until the advent of fiber-optic cables it was the sole radio and telecommunications hub – the lifeline - for the otherwise isolated people of Svalbard. The area surrounding the radio station has an exceptional animal life and a bird reserve where we find nesting birds right up to the station’s walls. As well as a wide variety of bird species, you will also be able to see reindeer and Arctic fox, as well as maybe a glimpse of the polar bear. The settlement has  23 rooms with shared bathrooms in the corridor. Dinner is served in the restaurant.

OK, so this video was filmed during the magnificent winter months, but at least it gives you a taste of how authentic your accommodation is!
