Faroe Islands
National Geographic Traveller describes the Faroes as authentic, unspoilt and likely to remain so - that's why we find these islands so special.
Situated halfway between Norway & Iceland and about 200 miles north of mainland Scotland the Faroes is an archipelago with a population of only 50,000. The landscape across the 18 islands is spectacular with lush valleys, green mountains, waterfalls, streams and black volcanic rock. Huge sea-cliffs form a backdrop to the call of screaming seabirds and the ever-changing light reflected from the ocean is mesmerising.
The capital, Tórshavn, is one of the world’s smallest with a population of just 20,000 people. Potter about in the centre with its ninth-century grass-roofed buildings and multi-coloured wooden houses, browse its art shops and Faroese fashion boutiques and whatever you do, experience its internationally renowned culinerary scene.
