This tour features three of Norway's most important and impressive cities: Oslo, her capital city with its bustling city centre and beautiful position overlooking the Oslofjord; Bergen, a delightful blend of ancient and modern also known as the 'Gatweway to the Fjords' and finally Trondheim, her ancient capital with its impressive Gothic Nidaros Cathedral.

The rail journey from Oslo to Bergen is known as 'Across the Roof of Norway' and crosses Hardangervidda, Europe’s largest mountain plateau.  This one-hundred square kilometre stretch of land was originally one of the main crossing points for traders and herders who, before the Bergen Line opened in 1909, made the arduous journey by foot or horse and cart alongside rivers and lakes overlooked by mountains and the Hardangerjøkulen glacier.  Today these same trails are popular with serious hikers and cross-country skiers who revel in the magnificent scenery and solitude they find here.

The journey by Hurtigruten from Bergen to Trondheim is a two night’s leisurely cruise by Coastal Voyage along Norway’s lovely western coastline with stops in Florø, Måløy, Torvik and Ålesund before making the striking detour into Geirangerfjord, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and then continuing via Molde and Kristiansund to Trondheim.
