This fantastic short-break holiday is perfect for those who wish to take advantage of the February half-term by going somewhere exciting, somewhere different.
That 'somewhere' is Swedish Lapland.
For the ultimate winter wonderland experience, you'll have days filled with husky sledding and snowmobiling through crystal-white snow, and spend your evenings gazing up at the sky, waiting for the Northern Lights to appear before getting cosy back at your wooden-clad lodge with a crackling fire.
0700 Depart London Heathrow Airport. SAS flight SK1530.
1030 Arrive Stockholm.
1125 Depart Stockholm. SAS flight SK8.
1245 Arrive Luleå.
Met on arrival and transferred to Brändön Lodge (duration approximately 1 hour).Brändön Lodge and Adventure Camp is located on an Island in the Luleå Archipelago on the coast of Swedish Lapland. The camp overlooks the frozen sea and islands of the Luleå archipelago. The Luleå archipelago has a total of 1300 islands and only 100 residents and is a unique wilderness environment where the sea around the island freezes up to a metre thick in winter.
The main building is a log cabin that includes restaurant and meetings rooms and a lounge and relax area. Surrounding the log cabin are 15 cabins facing towards the sea. Each cabin has been recently renovated during 2013 and includes one bathroom, two bedrooms with 2 single beds in each room, a lounge room and a front facing covered porch.
Dinner served in the main building.
3 nights BRÄNDÖN LODGE – Cabin accommodation.
A delicious breakfast is served in the main building followed by Nordic Winter Adventure skills. The activity starts off with a short briefing about how to dress and behave in the cold Arctic climate. After that you will change into warm clothes and snowshoes. Together with your guides you go out on a 3-hour trip into the nearby forests of Camp Brändön. Your experienced wilderness guide will lead you through an adventurous and educational excursion; you will learn how to make a fire in the snow, how to make tea and coffee over your open fire and also learn about the wildlife of the north.
At lunchtime you will be taken to a wilderness Lappish-tent, where together you will make a typical outdoor lunch. Here, on the reindeer-hides, you will enjoy your meal around the fire and then relax for a while before returning to Brändön Lodge. No equipment of your own is needed. Return to Brändön Lodge for your second adventure of the day – Husky Dog Sledding Adventure. Dogsledding is a fantastic activity and at Brändön Lodge there is a nearby Husky kennel that will take you on a fantastic adventure. You will learn how to take control of a husky team and drive them on a forest and lake trail. The experience is 2 hours long in total (including transfer and preparation).
Again a delicious breakfast is served in the main building followed by your Pack-Ice Snowmobile Adventure. This wonderful tour spends 4 hours on the glistening ice and islands of the Luleå archipelago on a snowmobile! Along the way the guide will tell you about the surroundings and about life in the northern wilderness. The participants are offered hot beverages and a chance to try ice-fishing. The destination of the tour is the island Brändöskär in the outermost archipelago, an idyllic fishing village dating from the 17th century. The chapel dated from 1774 and one of the fishing-huts will be visited. Outside the island is the frozen Bothnian bay with its seemingly endless fields of pack ice and snow. Some years the blue ice of the sea piles up into formations about 10 metres high - a mighty experience! The lunch for the day is cooked over an open fire.
Return to Brändön Lodge to relax before dinner. After dinner it's time to depart on your Northern Lights snowshoe walk in the wilderness, away from light pollution. Warm drink served during the trip.
A relaxing morning at the Lodge with optional activities. Lunch is served before transfer during the afternoon to Luleå Airport for your return flight home.
