Where the bizarre meets the beautiful... Iceland is

world famous for its unique landscape and this tour

is for those who want to delve straight into it.

You will head to the pretty fishing town of Stykkisholmur, the largest on the Snæfellsnes peninsula, followed by a visit to Akureyri - the 'capital of the north', beautifully positioned on Iceland's longest fjord. And lastly, but by no means least, you will finish your tour at the bizarre Lake Mývatn area with its nature baths and surreal lava fields, a true reminder of Iceland´s volcanic history.

Day 1

By air from the UK to Keflavik Airport. Airport bus (included) to your hotel.

1 night REYKJAVIK - Hotel Björk (BB)

Day 2

Collect car hire. Heading northwards passing the wide Kollafjord and through Hvalfjordur (Whale Fjord) tunnel to the mountainous Akranes Peninsula. Through Leirarsveit county and flat farm and pastureland to approach the low shores of the Borgarfjord and over the bridge to the small commercial town of Borgarnes. North west via the Eldborg crater and lava fields and continuing through mountain scenery and valleys to Stykkisholmur on the Breiðafjord (107 miles).

2 nights STYKKISHOLMUR - Hotel Stykkisholmur (HB)

Day 4

Heading north east continuing on Iceland's Ring Road, to Blönduos then heading eastwards towards Akureyri. The landscape is an everchanging patchwork of mountains, plains, lakes, rivers, marshland and lava desert (227 miles).

1 night AKUREYRI - Kea Hotel Nordurland (BB)

Day 5

A wonderful drive eastwards on the Ring Road via Godafoss Falls to the tiny village of Reynihlid situated in the north-east corner of Lake Myvatn (62 miles).

2 nights REYKJAHLID - Hotel Reynihlid(HB)

Day 7

Drop off hire car at Akureyri Airport nearby then 45 minutes flight to Reykjavik. Taxi to hotel (not included).

1 night REYKJAVIK - Hotel Björk (BB)

Day 8

Airport bus to Keflavik Airport for your return to the UK.

A superior three star hotel situated within a 10 minute walk from the heart of Reykjavik. The rooms are modern, spacious and comfortable with shower/wc, satellite TV and telephone and are accessible via a lift. Buffet breakfast is taken at the hotel's excellent in-house restaurant, Potturinn & Pannan. The restaurant offers a delicious selection of traditional and international cuisine prepared using the freshest of local produce.


Hotel Stykkisholmur***

Located on a hill overlooking the beautiful town, so every room has a spectacular view of beautiful scenery. There are 33 newly renovated rooms, all equipped with private facilities, TV, telephones, Internet connections and hairdryers. 80% of the hotel rooms are non-smoking. For sport enthusiasts, there is a golf course only 50 metres away!


Hotel Reynihlid****

This is a wonderful hotel in the Lake Mývatn region that offers high standard twin rooms with shower. The hotel also boasts excellent facilities including: wake up calls, a hair dryer, satellite television, central heating, tea & coffee and a delicious continental breakfast to ensure your stay is as pleasurable as possible. We recommend dining at the hotel's restaurant, Myllan, which serves delicious food from a wide menu that serves local produce. Another place to relax is Gamlibærinn Café-Bar, opened from 10.00 to 23.00 from middle of May until September. A variety of light meals, soft drinks as well as alcoholic beverages and their renowned "kjötsúpa" (Icelandic Meat soup) is served from the time they open until closing time.

Lake Mývatn with its pseudo-craters and a bird watcher’s paradise; Hverfjall, one of the world’s largest ash craters; Dimmuborgir with its lava formations; Krafla Geothermal Power Station with nearby Viti explosion crater; Námaskarð with its bubbling mud pools, hot springs and fumaroles; Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall; Ásbyrgi canyon, 3½ kms long by 60 m high.
