Surrounded by sea and a vast archipelago, Helsinki

blossoms in the summer when the dialogue between

the city and nature is in full bloom.

Classical Helsinki sights can be divided into a wide variety of museums and an eclectic set of churches that sweep a lavish feel of St. Petersburg’s into the capital city of Finland. The National Gallery boasts a rich and impressive volume of Finnish art, interwoven with the giants of the art world; Van Gogh, Gaugin and Cezanne. The city’s architecture is typified by Nordic minimalism and refinement. Modernism, functionalism and the largest concentration of Art Nouveau buildings in Northern Europe makes Helsinki a major city of art and architecture.

Helsinki is a green city, with one third of the city consisting of parks and other green areas where you can admire different historical styles and a flourish of bright, natural colours. There is an abundance of activities to submerge you and the whole family in, from Helsinki zoo to the science museum, the mixture of learning and fun marry perfectly.

Finland is the largest coffee consuming nation per capita and coffee breaks are written into law, so ensure you indulge in the café culture as much as the Finns clearly do. With over 1000 restaurants, this cosmopolitan city caters for all taste buds. Two classes of fine dining stand out in Helsinki: fresh seafood and Russian. During the dark days of the Soviet Union, it was sometimes said that the best Russian restaurants in the world were across the border in Helsinki, and we still agree.

Scandic Grand Marina, Helsinki ****

Set by Helsinki's harbour, the Scandic Grand Marina hotel offers a central location in Helsinki. Just a short walk from Helsinki's city center, the hotel makes a perfect base for exploring Helsinki attractions such as Kaivopuisto Park, the market square or the popular Uspenski Cathedral. When staying at the Scandic Grand Marina hotel, you can borrow a bicycle from the hotel reception, enjoy a work-out in their modern gym or visit the sauna after a long day to wind down. Eat well in the hotel restaurant, Makasiini, and enjoy fantastic views over Helsinki's harbour from their hotel pub the Key West Pub. The restaurant Makasiini serves both lunch and dinner, serving fabulous Finnish cuisine ranging from Reindeer steak to their freshly caught fish of the day. Breakfast at the Scandic is certified organically sourced and features a large organic buffet serving a range of cereals, hot and cold meats, cheeses, breads and fruit juices.

The hotel has a shop that is open 24 hours a day, so you don't have to head into town and look for a shop when you’d rather stay at the hotel. The shops offer snacks, practical items and fun diversions. You can buy a cup of tea, fill up your toiletry bag or sort out a little gift for those back home. The coffee at the shop is Fairtrade, and all the food that you can buy is prepared at the hotel. With a gym and sauna at the Scandic Grand Marina hotel, guests have plenty of opportunity to stay fit and refreshed. Work out in the gym or unwind in the sauna, and afterwards why not treat yourself to a drink, sandwich or cake at the Scandic bar or Key West pub featured within the hotel. All rooms have a clean, very modern interior and are all extremely comfortable. All rooms are ensuite with a shower or bath and are equipped with WIFI, hairdryer, flat screen TV, minibar, safe deposit box and telephone.
