Read moreAkureyri is known as the 'capital of the North' and is the trade and cultural centre of North Iceland, beautifully situated overlooking the fjord. From here you will visit the Lake Mývatn area, renowned for its beauty and geological wonders. The region offers a multitude of activities plus, of course, the opportunity to relax in the lagoon at Mývatn Nature Baths. Lake Mývatn is an ideal site to explore North Iceland’s exotic beauty; volcanic craters, lava fields and mud pools. The evenings heat up with excitement in this prime location for viewing the Northern Lights. Reykjavik is Iceland's exciting capital city with a superb selection of bars, cafes, restaurants and shops; renowned for its nightlife and friendly, easy-going people.
Day 1
Arrive Keflavik Airport and transfer to Hotel Björk in Reykjavik. From your hotel it is a close walk into the centre of town here you’ll also be able to walk to the harbour.
1 night REYKJAVIK - Hotel Björk (BB)
Day 2
Morning flight to Akureyri, the Capital of the North and transfer to your hotel. Visit the Lake Mývatn area, renowned for its beauty and geological wonders. The Northern Lights might dance around tonight, be sure to take a walk before going to sleep! Free entry to the Northern Light shelter.
3 nights MÝVATN - Sel Hotel (HB)
Day 3 & 4
You can enjoy various optional leisure activities in the area (see excursion tab). It is ideal to end the evening with a tour to Mývatn Nature Baths for a late night relaxation in the lagoon.
Day 5
Visit the town of Akureyri, North Iceland's trade and cultural centre, beautifully resting in a scenic fjord. Flight back to Reykjavík and check in at your hotel.

A superior three star hotel situated within a 10 minute walk from the heart of Reykjavik. The rooms are modern, spacious and comfortable with shower/wc, satellite TV and telephone and are accessible via a lift. Buffet breakfast is taken at the hotel's excellent in-house restaurant, Potturinn & Pannan. The restaurant offers a delicious selection of traditional and international cuisine prepared using the freshest of local produce.
Sel Hotel Mývatn is the ideal base for experiencing the wonders of Mývatn and its surroundings. The hotel has 35 rooms which all have a bathroom, telephone, radio and TV. Each room can also be connected to the internet. All rooms are beautifully furnished with solid mahogany. The restaurant is in the south wing of the hotel and is open to serve dinner from 1900 to 2030 during the winter season with an a la carte menu; it is also from here that you have a marvellous view of the Skútustaðagígar pseudo-craters, which are just a couple of minutes' walk away. The hotel´s bar is open from 1800 until 2130 during the winter.
Snowmobile Adventure

A tour for those who want a little bit more from the lake. It will take you further out on the lake and provide great views of the natural pearls around Lake Mývatn.

Super-Jeep Adventure
Daily, Sep - May, duration: 3 hours
Two in one! Sightseeing at Mývatn and a Super-Jeep adventure. This is a great and exciting way to travel around the lake and explore its volcanic and geothermal surroundings.

Jeep Safari
Daily, Sep - May, duration: 3 hours
After a nice breakfast at the hotel you meet the staff and the jeep that takes you on an unforgettable tour further into the Mývatn area. You cross Dimmuborgir 'dark castles' and Hverfell, a big explosion crater nearby Dimmuborgir. The tour then heads to the craters of Lúdent. Lúdents were formed some 1000 years ago and are a great row of craters some 1 km long. This special off-road tour takes you to some of the most beautiful 'hidden' places of Lake Mývatn. After a good rest at Lúdent you drive to Hverarönd hightemperature area to see fumaroles and bubbling mud pools.

Dettifoss Sightseeing
Daily, Sep - May, duration: 4 - 5 hours
Dettifoss is the most powerful waterfall in Europe and is unforgettable at winter time. This is an outstanding tour, where you get the opportunity to see the nature at its best. You also visit the waterfall Selfoss and the basalt canyon of the river Jökulsá. The drive to Dettifoss takes about 1 hour and then we walk down to the waterfall in some snow conditions. It is a great fun but can sometimes be a little difficult to walk in the snow. So dress well and be prepared for everything.

Northern Lights Hunt

Lake Mývatn is around 300 metres above sealevel and is an unforgettable stop in the middle of nowhere. As it is away from light pollution it is also one of the best places to search for the Northern Lights (weather permitting)! To warm up you are served home made bread, cakes and hot chocolate. The Northern Lights tour is an experience you should not miss!

Mývatn Nature Baths
Daily, Sep - May, duration: 2 - 3 hours
The lagoon is rich in natural minerals which give the lagoon its soft, milky, aquamarine colour. The water is also very good for patients with psoriasis and other skin ailments. There are also two steam baths, a hot tub and a natural sauna. A unique experience!

Horse Riding
Daily, Oct - Apr, duration: 1 hour
The horseman at Álftagerði takes you on an adventure tour into the beautiful sites of Lake Mývatn and through the frozen lake. Icelandic horses are well known for their five gates and especially for the comfortable gate 'tölt'.
