Sleep in traditional Lavvu’s (traditional Sámi tents) whilst gazing up at the beautiful Northern Lights. Ride on snowmobiles and dog sleds and dine at one of the region´s finest restaurants serving locally sourced, organic food at Sörbyn Lodge, and visit a traditional Sámi family and meet their reindeers whilst dining alongside the beautiful Gorgim Lake in a wooden tee-pee around an open fire. Why not treat yourself to an authentic wood-fired sauna and dip in the lake through a drilled ice hole before your next day’s transfer to the old town of Lulea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a further chance of seeing this beautiful region.

Aurora Safari Camp holiday


Day 1

Met on arrival at Luleå Airport by your hosts from Aurora Safari Camp. Transfer to the ‘Common House’ to gather over Swedish Fika. Here you will also be provided with winter thermal outdoor clothing as well as the opportunity to have a shower for those who wish! You will then transfer by snowmobile sled to the Aurora Safari Camp (approx. 2kms) with stops to admire the wilderness. On arrival at the
camp you will be given a drink as you settle in by your stove fire inside your heated lavvu. A simple dinner such as reindeer pasta with either a starter or dessert is then served (vegetarian option also available). All food is organic and local and served with high quality wine or beer. Afterwards you begin hunting for the Northern Lights inside the peace and quiet of the wilderness before retiring to your lavvu.
During the night it is your responsibilty to ensure that your stove fire is kept going - which is all part of the experience!

1 night WILDERNESS - Aurora Safari Camp (HB)

Day 2

A tasty breakfast of ham or bacon and eggs is served with a hot drink followed by a snowshoe walk up the mountain to get sight of the stunning panoramic views of the region. Depending on sunrise time you may take the walk before breakfast in which case you will have a warm drink and biscuits before setting off, followed by breakfast on your return. Transfer the short distance to Sörbyn Lodge where there is an optional dog sledding trip. Food lovers will like to know that Sörbyn’s restaurant has a reputation for being one of the region's finest, with local food cooked to the highest standards of quality and presentation. We have included their 3-course menu in your holiday price but why not intensify your culinary experience by trying their 5-course menu for one or all of your nights!

3 nights SÖRBYN - Sörbyn Lodge (HB)

Day 3

A hearty breakfast is served at Sörbyn Lodge. Afterwards, you will be met by guides for your Sámi adventure which begins with an introduction on how to drive your snowmobile. You will then set out (two people per snowmobile with the chance to swap over) on your expedition along the frozen Råne River to Flakaberg where you'll meet Lars Erikkson and his Sámi family. He will show you his reindeer and tell you about the Sámi people’s way of life, past and present. You will then travel by snowmobile sled to the beautiful Gorgim Lake where you will be served a typical Sámi lunch in a wooden tee-pee around an open fire. Lars will take you on a short hike in the surrounding area and give you a further insight into the Sámi way of life. In the evening you return to the lodge for an optional authenic wood-fired sauna and possible dip in the lake through a drilled ice hole, for those who dare(!), before getting ready for dinner.

Day 4

Full day free to relax or try an optional excursion.

Day 5

After breakfast you will be met at the hotel for your guided transfer to Luleå Aiport. Your transfer includes a brief minibus tour of Gamla Stan, the original old town of Luleå, and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Aurora Safari Camp

Experience Arctic Camping! For those of you who aren't familiar with the term 'glamping' then you find it when camping meets glamour. The Aurora Safari Camp is a brand new comfortable and very unique wilderness experience in Swedish Lapland owned by founded by Photographer Fredrik Broman. Each lavvu is furnished with beds and sleeping bag with a slk linen (far removed from the typical sense of camping!). Your lavvu is heated by a stove fire and just like a true wilderness experience - it is your choice to keep it going!

Sörbyn Lodge

Sörbyn Lodge is located on a beautiful lake near the small village of Sörbyn, this venue has a variety of accommodation options including older style timber cabins and newly built hotel rooms which you will be staying in. All rooms are of good quality and good comfort, and are equipped with private toilet and TV. The hotel is highly praised in Lapland because it boasts a restaurant of high class cuisine, renowned locally for its fine dining using local ingredients.

Northern Lights Safari

Daily, duration: 4 hours
After being equipped with warm clothing you will take off in a 4x4 car searching for the Northern Lights in the area of Råne River valley. This region has some good mountain peaks with great views over the vast forest landscapes. You will then take a short hike into the dark forest with head torches - this is a surreal experience full of shadows and lights!

Moose Safari

Daily, duration: 4 hours
You have the option to do this trip by 4x4 car or snowmobile and sled. You will be equipped with warm clothing, if required, and then taken out into the forests of Swedish Lapland in search of the Scandinavian moose. Once you have worked up an appetite you’ll have a BBQ with sausages, bread and warm drinks over an open camp fire before returning to Sörbyn Lodge.

Snowshoe walk

Daily, duration: 3 or 6 hours
After being equipped with warm clothing and snowshoes you take a tour in the forest area looking at animal tracks and learn about the boreal forests of Lapland. You will stop for outdoor Fika* and have the opportunity to spot moose in the winter landscape . During the 6 hour tour you will learn how to make fire in the snow and your guide will tell you about survival techniques in the Arctic landscape.

Cross Country Skiing

Daily, duration: 3 or 6 hours
Snowmobile transfer by sled to the beautiful forest area of Råne river valley. You will be equipped with thermal clothing and cross country skis. You make a tour in the forest area looking at animal tracks and learn about the boreal forests of Lapland. For lunch you’ll stop halfway for outdoor
Fika* and then continue through the spectacular landscapes in the huge pine forests. This is a great location for potentially spotting moose and grouse in the winter landscape. During the 6 hour tour, you’ll also learn how to make fire in the snow and your guide will tell you about survival techiques in the Arctic landscape.

Ice Fishing

Daily, duration: 3 or 6 hours
Your guides meet you at Sörbyn Hotel after breakfast and then you’ll change to appropriate clothing supplied to you. You’ll make a trip to the ice and try catching some of the wild fish of the Arctic and also stop for outdoor Fika*. During the 6 hour tour you’ll have time for a cosy outdoor lunch around an open camp fire.

Husky sledding - Isdimma

Daily, duration: 1.5 hours
Isdimma Husky Adventure are special. This is an extremely high quality and personal dog-sledding experience beyond the ordinary. These dogs are beautiful pure bred Siberian huskies that are closely bonded to their Swedish family and carers. The tour is provided by a small family business where the owner is the lead guide and talks about the huskies and way of life.
