The village of Alta is situated in the county of

Finnmark, the region of Norway often referred

to as 'Lapland'.

Alta is situated in a stunning location, with the glowing Altafjorden on one side, and the magnificent, vast mountain plateau of Finnmarksvidda on the other. This region is home to the few thousand semi-nomadic Sami or 'Lapps' who, for thousands of years, have herded their reindeer on these beautiful mountain plains. Interest in their way of life has led to an increase in the number of travellers wishing to visit the region and experience the Sami culture first hand.

Our short break to Alta includes one night in the unique Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel - a wonderful construction made completely from snow and ice and houses hotel rooms, ice sculptures and its very own ice bar complete with ice glasses! This hotel truly breaks down the normal conventions of accommodation, and provides one of the most unforgettable overnight experiences you will ever have!
