A five day tour in winter wonderland Iceland where,

in addition to visiting the most famous places of the

country, you will also hunt for the magnificent

Northern Lights.

This is a real adventure of a tour including such highlights as the famous Geysir hot spring area, the Glacial Lagoon in South-East Iceland, beautiful waterfalls and much more. The tour is also designed to maximise your chances of witnessing the amazing Northern Lights, but like all natural phenomenons, you will appreciate that we cannot guarantee the arrival of the Northern Lights but do our best to find them! You will stay in a hotel located in the countryside far away from city lights and the itinerary may be adjusted when an opportunity to witness the wonders of the Northern Lights arises.

Day 1 - Thursday

Arrive Keflavik Airport by air from the UK with Icelandair. Airport transfer to your hotel (approx. 45 mins).
1 night REYKJAVÍK – Centerhotel Plaza (BB)

Day 2 - Friday

You tour the renowned Golden Circle route which includes a visit to the world-famous Geysir hot-spring area and where Strokkur geyser erupts every 5-10 minutes. Then to magnificent Gullfoss waterfall and Þingvellir National Park (UNESCO) where the forces of the Great Atlantic Rift are clearly visible. This is where the North American and European tectonic plates drift apart at a rate of 2-6 cm per year. Þingvellir is also where the ancient Icelandic parliament was established in 930. It is an area of truly outstanding beauty as well as geological and historical significance.
After visiting these world famous sights and a visit to local horse stable to see the unique Icelandic horse with its 5 gaits, you drive through the landscapes of South Iceland to your accommodation in the country hotel Katla near the town of Vik, where you will stay for 2 nights.
2 nights VÍK – Hotel Katla (BB)

Day 3 - Saturday

You continue eastwards on the ‘Ring Road’ along the southern shore to the amazing Jökulsarlon Glacial Lagoon. The lagoon developed around 60 years ago with a continuing process of calving and falling of icebergs from the glacial tongue Breiðamerkurjökull. These icebergs are seen in two shades, one type in milky white, while the other type is in bright blue colour, which is the interplay of light and ice crystals. The lagoon is filled with fish that drift in from the sea along with the tides. Seals also gather in large numbers at the mouth of the lagoon to catch the fish during the winter which is a sight to watch. On the way back to Hotel Katla you also visit Skaftafell National Park which is part of Vatnajökull National Park and contains some of the most prized natural sights of the country.

Day 4 - Sunday

En route to Reykjavík stops are made at the impressive Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls as well as the glaciers and volcanoes of Myrdalsjökull/Katla and infamous Eyjafjallajökull which caused all the flight disruptions in 2010. A visit is made to the Eyjafjallajökull Visitor Centre at the foot of the volcano. A short film (20 mins) portrays the spectacular natural event, and the hectic times and incredible challenges met by the family farm of Thorvaldseyri. The final highlight before we return to Reykjavik is
the surreal Blue Lagoon on the Reykjanes Peninsula. You have a choice of viewing the lagoon or enjoy soaking in the mineral rich water with its fine silica mud, while you look for the Northern Lights overhead. In the late afternoon you arrive in Reykjavik, where you're free to explore this fun and dynamic city.
1 night REYKJAVÍK – Centerhotel Plaza (BB)
